physical contact
October 5, 2007
Wednesday night, I was sitting in the back seat of a car with a girl on either side of me. It was about a half-hour drive to where we were going.
Halfway there, I noticed that my right arm was directly underneath the arm of the girl next to me so that her left arm was resting on mine. Then I noticed that I was sitting about two inches away from the girl to my left.
I have known the girl on my right for years and have been acquainted with the one on my left for a few months.
It was interesting to see how comfortable you could get with a person that you don’t even notice that you are touching. When you do, though, it warms you inside to know that you have that kind of relationship where you can almost be one self.
It makes me think of synchronized swimmers or figure skating partners.
“loud.”

She points at her headphones.
Then she disappears into them.
